This 1940 photo of
Front Street taken from the Depot shows nearly all of the same Front
Street stores in the photo to the left. Of course, none of these
buildings exist today.

The Citizens' Band in 1905. At
this time the electric railway tracks in the picture extended to the B
& O Line to a platform to exchange freight between the
lines.

This was the lunchroom
of the Front Street Arlington Hotel, #5 in the photo to the left. The lady on the
right is Mary Ellen Martin, mother of George Martin. She and her
husband operated the lunchroom. Note that the 10 cent item on the
menu is sauerkraut and wieners.

This was the great March 1913 snow storm
showing Ed Hayes on Myrtle Avenue. The background shows Carl
Strahm's racket store which is now the entrance to Carol's Ultrastitch.

This was the first
opening stage show in the new Masonic Theater in the new Masonic temple in
1912. The play presented was "Baby Mine."

Dismantling of
Buckingham Elevator, CA 1957. The elevator was located near North
Woodbine street near present Uncle Dudley's restaurant.

Hank Hoffman grocery in 1917 on Myrtle
Avenue, 4 doors south of the old City Hall building.

The
Buckeye Band Association Union at Chicago Junction in 1902. There
were 9 bands present and 7 bandstands were erected. Note that the
Post Office was located at the extreme right.

Lester P. Hensinger was mayor in 1908 and
1909. The white horse and wagon is standing in front of the Post
Office and Mayor Hensinger's black and white sign which led to the second
floor of the Post Office building. All show plainly in this 1909
photo. Click on "Willard Homesteads" to the left to see a
picture of Mayor Hensinger's house along with his family.

Decoration Day,
1915. Note the S. N. & M. electric car on the right and the W.
T. Francis, Sr. home in the center. The downtown buildings district
ended with the old Sheidley Hotel at that time.
