The original name of Willard was Chicago Junction and was often
shortened to Chicago. Because it was en route on the railroad to
Chicago, Illinois, this same name caused confusion to the passengers and
delivery people. So in 1918 the name was changed to Willard in honor of
Daniel Willard who was president of the B & O Railroad at that time.
