The original name of Willard was Chicago Junction and was often shortened to Chicago.  Because it was en route on the railroad to Chicago, Illinois, this same name caused confusion to the passengers and delivery people.  So in 1918 the name was changed to Willard in honor of Daniel Willard who was president of the B & O Railroad at that time.
